It is an honor to say that I have been a part of the Somerset family since 2001. Almost 10 years later, the rewards of being a part of this organization have been so many. Initially, my work as an administrative assistant was the beginning of my path to learning about the business world. Then, as I learned more about the educational aspect of Somerset Academy, teaching became a passion. I decided to pursue my education at Florida International University, and after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages, I also became certified to teach Elementary Education for grades K-6. In addition, I began furthering my knowledge in reading specialization. Among my strengths in education, analyzing data and developing instruction and assessments are what I enjoy most.
Now in my fifth year as a classroom teacher, I am more confident than ever in teaching young children. I hold high expectations for children to master the standards and believe that understanding each student’s specific needs is key in helping them reach success in school. Due to the nature of my degree, many of my classroom practices incorporate those that are successful in a special education classroom. The students participate in many multi-sensory activities, direction instruction, and an intense fast track reading program to ensure that they are on the right track for decoding and understanding what they are reading.
In my free time, I spend time on the beach, explore art and music, and read.
My name is Karen Ali. I believe it is important to effectively instill in children the joy of learning and to provide a positive foundation for the years to come. This is my goal as a teacher, to broaden the minds of children in an environment that promotes the desire to learn.
I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Phoenix and my Bachelors of Arts in Early Childhood was attained at the University of South Carolina. I achieved my ESOL certification in 2005. I have teaching certificates for the state of Florida and North Carolina.
I have been teaching for 11 years, 9 of those years were with Somerset Academy schools. I have taught Pre-K through 2nd at Somerset Academy and Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th at Somerset Davie. My teaching career has given me the opportunity to work with all ages of students and now I am overjoyed to be working with the older students and help them reach their fullest potential.
My name is Stephanie Roumain Read. I have been teaching since 2001 as an ESE teacher then as a regular elementary classroom teacher. I completed my Bachelors degree in Pre-k/Primary Education from Barry University and my Masters degree in ESE from McGill University in Montreal Quebec. I hold a Florida Certification in pre-k/Primary, ESE and I am also ESOL endorsed. I have always wanted to teach students and make a difference in their lives. Teaching to me is a very rewarding career that enables me to watch my students develop, learn and progress.
Mrs. Dina Miller -Principal
It has been my pleasure to be an administrator with Somerset Academy Inc. schools for 10 years with students in grades kindergarten through the fifth grade. I have my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova SouthEastern University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University. Throughout the years with Somerset Academy Schools, I have been able to focus my attention and share my passion for children and their development with all stakeholders. I have been dedicated to monitoring policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment and ensuring a school culture that encourages continuous improvement for teachers and students. I have applied my knowledge and experience to the creation and implementation of differentiating class room instruction and student assessment to meet the needs of all students in conjunction with state learning regulations and have proudly documented learning gains.
At Somerset Academy Davie, we are dedicated to providing high quality, equitable education for all of our students and it is my true belief that Parents + Teachers + Students = Success!
